Step into the world of Baroque art as we delve into the secrets of Caravaggio's 'Supper at Emmaus'. Guided by the National Gallery’s CEEH Associate Curator of Spanish Paintings, Daniel Sobrino Ralston, this film offers a unique opportunity to uncover the layers of artistry, symbolism, and historical context of this mesmerising work. The painting, created in 1601, portrays a pivotal moment in the Bible, captured with Caravaggio’s distinct style of dramatic lighting and keen eye for detail. Caravaggio's 'Supper at Emmaus' is on loan to Ulster Museum, Belfast, in 2024. To celebrate our Bicentenary, 12 paintings from the collection are being lent to 12 venues across the UK.
