Lovell Canyon is one of my favorite places near Las Vegas. It's a reasonable drive up Route 160, the highway that goes to Pahrump. After you go up and over the pass where Mountain Springs is located, you go a few more miles to the turnoff onto Lovell Canyon Road. It's a very popular place for boondockers, all year round. In the hot summer months, it's people in campers with air conditioning, but for the rest of the year, you will see a lot of tent campers. There are many turnouts and clearings along the road which work well for camping. This video is mostly a test of a new camera mounting system. My objective is to raise the camera mount farther above the top of my vehicle. I'm approaching it in stages. Stage one, in this video, is to use a three-suction-cup mount instead of the two suction cup mount that I usually use. This provides a more stable base. After all, if you let go of a bicycle, it falls over. A tricycle doesn't. Then, I put the camera on a selfie stick, and attached the bottom of the selfie stick to the mount. For this effort, I kept the selfie stick folded up. This raised the camera about 10 inches above the regular mounting point. I drove down Lovell Canyon Road to the end of the paved section. I didn't continue up the unpaved road, because I am just learning how stable the mounting is. All went well with te system on this drive. Next time, I'll make a few small changes in how I attach the mount to the vehicle, and extend the selfie stick one section, raising it to about two feet above the normal mounting point. I'm really looking forward to making a video of the drive next winter, when a good day comes along when there is snow up on the tops of the Spring Mountains.
