I first learned about this concept from Hainbach and the wonderful content on the subject. If you are interested in learning more about this topic, I highly recommend you consult with someone far more knowledgable than myself, by checking out his channel. Here is a link to his test equipment playlist: https://tinyurl.com/HainbachTestEquip... Anyway, I decided to take the plunge and dip my toes into these exotic waters by making my first test equipment purchase. The prices of these used machines seem to have skyrocketed in recent years; even the "untested/for parts" items. However, I have been regularly checking eBay and recently saw a function generator advertised for less than £8. Even with the £20 postage costs, this still proved cheaper than most other listed items. And so, this FUNctional little device wound its way across Europe, from Lithuania to my door. After having a bit of an experimental jam — using an additional feedback send on my mixer — I used this device to make a cool little track. The ambient layer this machine helped create, gives a real swagger to the beat. For me, using test equipment is all about exploration. Trying to make music with machines not designed for that purpose is an enjoyable challenge, that encourages creativity. Damn, I may have been bitten by the bug!!!! Peace xx
