With the transmission removed, it's a PERFECT time to replace some difficult engine seals on "Alester," as well as dive into a few other things. While we're waiting for parts to rebuild the transmission, let's dive into the Track Covers! They're REALLY rough, so we're going to beat them back into shape, do a little welding to fix all the cracks, cut out and replace all the metal that's rusted through, and upgrade the step on them so they're better going forward! Since we're in this deep we're going to pull the flywheel and replace the rear main seal on the engine since there's NO better time to get that replaced than RIGHT NOW! Since we're at it, might as well replace the front main seal as well, since it leaks too! We're also going to work on the shifter / throttle mechanism because it is really loose and it has a hard time finding the gear I want to select, so we'll see what we can do to get that working a bit better! Lot's to do on this old dozer, but we're getting there one step at a time! I hope you enjoy! ~ This is my 1970's Caterpillar D3 LGP Bulldozer named "Alester"... It has a 6 way blade, wide tracks, and is powered by a Caterpillar 3204 diesel engine. The machine is in fairly good shape considering it's lack of care over the last decade and a half, but it does have some major issues that we're working through one step at a time! ~ 0:00 - Previously on "Alester" the Baby Bull Dozer Project! 1:28 - Figuring out and Tightening up the Gear Shifter 14:10 - Repairing the the Beat up & Broken Track Covers 18:23 - Upgrading & Making the "STEP" on the Track Covers Actually USABLE! 29:43 - Removing the Flywheel from the Engine 34:02 - Flipping the Flywheel Gear to the "NEW" side 38:23 - Removing and Opening up the Alternator that DOESN'T Charge 46:16 - Replacing the FRONT Main Engine Seal on the Caterpillar 3204 Diesel Engine 54:53 - Replacing the REAR Main Engine Seal on the Caterpillar 3204 Diesel Engine ~ If you have any suggestions, questions, or comments, please leave them below or contact us by email at: [email protected] Thanks for stopping by, I truly appreciate your support! #bulldozer #caterpillar #SalvageWorkshop
