In this special field-recorded episode, the Of Cedar And Salmon Podcast travels to the now-closed Tillicum Village on Blake Island - once a vibrant home of First Nations art, architecture, and cultural experiences, now locked away from the public. Invited by Washington State Parks, we joined artist Long Claw as he reclaimed several pieces he originally created for the village in the early 1990s. It gave us a rare chance to document Indigenous artwork and craftsmanship that may soon disappear from the landscape entirely. Armed with microphones and cameras, we captured an on-site conversation surrounded by the art, stories, and structures that defined this historic place. You’ll hear reflections from Long Claw, insights from Washington State Parks, and discussions about the cultural significance of preserving these works. Plus what the uncertain future of Tillicum Village might hold. It's a behind-the-scenes look inside Tillicum Village… perhaps for the last time. 0:00 - Early Start 2:53 - Boat Ride 4:06 - Arrival 6:11 - Exploring Tillicum Village 8:51 - Of Cedar And Salmon -- Want more immersive storytelling?
