The Nanking Massacre (1937 - 1938)
Plot Synopsis: A story about the Nanking Massacre (1937-1938), it is only recently this event has began to gain more awareness each year. For my latest university production project, my documentary/ visual essay, explores and portrays the event in a new and interesting way, to highlight how comics are able to depict and explore serious matters and events of life, and how the audience creates the experience of the cinema, despite the images mainly being static. The themes and topics explored are: rape, looting, mass-killings ( both soldiers and civilians), and some of the horrific things people endured during the Japanese occupation of the city.
