Our graduates have great earning opportunities, multiple job offers and can travel the world… so apply now”, says Associate Professor, Matthew Eyre of the Camborne School of Mines, University of Exeter. Peter Haddock met Matthew on a recent tour where he explained how the School, known as CSM to its Camborne School of Mines Association Alumni who work in some of the world’s largest businesses, is not just shaping the future of mining, but also surveying, and geotechnical engineering. Think tunnelling and complex engineering in addition to surface and underground mining, and you will understand why its graduates exposed to cutting edge education and industry leading technology are so popular. And this year it is relaunching its Surveying and Environmental Land Management MSc and the Undergraduate Mining Engineering program supported by a full array of surveying equipment from Leica Geosystems part of Hexagon. Matthew: “The support from Leica Geosystems has been fantastic because it really allows us to show the technology and the latest kit that students are going to take into industry both above and below the ground. “It’s also allows us to expand our offering to students and the wider industries they serve as we prepare the next generation of professionals to meet global infrastructure and energy demands, particularly with the relaunch of the new courses.” “Our graduates go into major projects like HS2 (High Speed Two) Ltd and Hinkley Point C, and many head to Australia and beyond and it’s never been a more exciting time for our students.” From UAV-based aerial photogrammetry to advanced mine design and tunnelling, students gain practical experience with real-world applications. And this year CSM is also hosting the International Mining Games, cementing its strong industry connections with other educational establishments worldwide. Applications for 2025 are now open, offering students the opportunity to be part of a field that is evolving and vital to the world’s future.
