Richard Carlson rarely sang in his films -- just a few songs in "Beyond Tomorrow," two songs in "No, No, Nanette," and a tiny snippet in "Too Many Girls." All three of these films were released in 1940. The year before, Joshua Logan had persuaded Carlson to sing two songs in the Broadway musical "Stars in Your Eyes," in which he co-starred with Ethel Merman, Jimmy Durante, and Tamara Toumanova. Carlson's singing days dated back at least as far as high school, when he starred in musical theater productions. "Beyond Tomorrow" (1940) was actually a black and white film. This clip is from the colorized version that was retitled "Beyond Christmas."
