Continuation of the theme of the origin of the elite of the Avar Khaganate, who arrived in the Carpathian Basin from the steppes of Central Eurasia in 567–568. The Avars Empire, ruled by the Khagan, dominated eastern Central Europe for over 200 years until it was conquered by the Franks around 800 BC. n. e. Byzantine sources agree that their westward movement was provoked by the formation of the Turkic Khaganate in the 550s, centered on the territory of modern Mongolia, when the Turks destroyed the Zhuzhan Khaganate. However, there is no consensus in historical texts about who these people were and where exactly they came from. At the same time, Byzantine sources, at the suggestion of the Turks, called them "pseudo-Avars", who allegedly assigned the name Avars and the high title of kagan, but in fact were Ogurs - the Turkic-speaking people of the western part of Central Eurasia. Although it can be considered that the Rouran most likely called themselves Avars, the question of the extent to which the European Avars descended from them is a matter of debate. I also want to note right away that the Avars, which will be discussed, should not be confused with the Avars of the Caucasus. They are historically and genetically different peoples.
