By Friday morning, 61 arrests were made. The looting began after a protest unrelated to it, sparked by dropped charges against a police officer who killed Eddie Irizarry. Thirty arrests were made on Wednesday, primarily for burglary, theft, and riot-related charges. Some arrested on the first night awaited formal charges. Among the suspects was Dayjia Blackwell, aka "Meatball," who livestreamed and organized the looting, leading Mayor Jim Kenney to accuse her of inciting a riot. The looting persisted into Thursday, targeting various shops.
