It was Philipsen in 1956 who coined the term keratocyst and it is used to designate a very specific entity within itself which has characteristic histological appearance and a very specific clinical behaviour which basically indicates an aggressive growth potential and the tendency to recover after surgical removal but this definition is now applied only to a specific type of OKC that is parakeratinized type. And according to the WHO, they actually considered the para keratinized odontogenic keratocyst as a keratocystic odontogenic tumor.
