Although the name sounds daunting, Death Canyon is actually a gorgeous canyon that is perfect for a long day hike or a backpacking trip! Beyond the canyon lies the Alaskan Basin. Put this hike high on your list of hikes in Grand Teton National Park. It must be the name scaring people away, because this trail does not have the crowds like the other park trails. The trail starts near Phelps Lake and continues past and into Death Canyon. A cascading creek accompanies you while switchbacking throughout the beautiful canyon. Continue on all the way to Static Peak for one of the parks more tame peaks. Come here to Death Canyon to escape the other somewhat crowded popular hikes in the park.
