Solihull is located in the county of West Midlands, 7.5 miles/12km southeast of Birmingham. It is one of the most affluent towns in the UK outside of London, and once credited as best place to live in the United Kingdom according to the uSwitch Quality of Life Index in 2013. Solihull's name is believed to be derived from 'soily hill', since the parish church, St Alphege, was built on a hill of stiff red marl, which turned to sticky mud in wet weather. The town of Solihull was founded allegedly between 1170 and 1180 AD. Around the town are a few old timber-framed buildings, including Manor House - a genuine Tudor building dating from around 1495 AD. It is visible shortly after the 12-minute mark (see the timestamps below for details). Solihull railway station opened in 1852, allowing manufacturers and business professionals from Birmingham to migrate here. The town received a surge in population in the 20th century, in part due to car manufacturer Rover opening a plant here shortly after the Second World War. Famous people from Solihull include newsreader Michael Buerk, bodybuilder and six-time Mr. Olympia Dorian Yates and Top Gear/The Grand Tour presenter Richard Hammond. 👇 SUBSCRIBE TO 4K EXPLORER FOR NEW VIDEOS EVERY WEEK 👇 https://www.youtube.com/4KExplorer?su...
