Santa Clara University presents the 20th Annual VSA Culture Show. We are honored to welcome you to this year’s Santa Clara University Vietnamese Student Association Culture Show. From one simple vision a year ago to the moment you’re witnessing tonight, it’s been an incredible journey working alongside our amazing, passionate, and talented cast and crew to bring this production to life. Our show, The Legend of the Trưng Sisters, follows four college students who are unexpectedly transported over 2,000 years back in time to ancient Vietnam. There, they encounter Hai Bà Trưng, the legendary sisters who led a historic rebellion against colonization. As the students search for a way home, they uncover powerful lessons about identity, resilience, and what it means to be Vietnamese and Vietnamese American. To us, this story is so much more than fiction. It’s about a chance to reclaim our narratives and find strength in our heritage. Too often, the Vietnamese identity gets reduced to just war, trauma, and loss, but there is so much more to us. Thus, we wanted to center a story that celebrates our legacy of resistance, community, and pride. This show is our tribute, not to just our culture and our community, but to this moment. Every line, every dance, and every scene has been crafted with love and dedication by students who have poured their hearts into this production. We are incredibly grateful to continue the legacy of those who paved the way for this show. Directors, performers, and creatives who have kept this tradition alive year after year. With The Legend of the Trung Sisters, we hope to add our own voice to that legacy through a story that feels both meaningful and true to who we are. We hope it makes you laugh or maybe cry, but more than anything, we hope it sparks meaningful conversations, cultivates empathy, and invites a deeper appreciation for the strength and complexity of the Vietnamese-American experience. Thank you for being here with us tonight. Your presence is a reminder of why we do this. We invite you to join us in celebrating not just a performance but a shared experience of culture, community, and belonging. With love and gratitude, Ashley, Steph, and Megan
