Prime Minister Narendra Modi is unlikely to attend an iftar hosted by President Pranab Mukherjee at Rashtrapati Bhavan on Wednesday. At the time of the iftar, Modi will be meeting chief ministers of northeastern states. "The Prime Minister will chair a meeting with chief ministers from the northeastern states, including Sikkim, at 1900 hrs tomorrow. Important development projects related to these states and the entire northeastern region are likely to figure in this meeting," a PMO statement said. Earlier in the day, he will chair the second meeting of the governing council of Niti Aayog at 7 Race Course Road, his official residence. Last year too, Modi had not attended the iftar hosted by the President. Among the guest list are the Vice-President, leaders of all major political parties, diplomats of Muslim countries, members of the council of ministers and other luminaries. Sources said around 350 guests are expected at the function. Former President APJ Abdul Kalam, former PM Manmohan Singh, Congress president Sonia Gandhi, J&K CM Mufti Mohammed Sayeed, Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Chief Justice of India HL Dattu are also on the list of invitees.
