Set amongst the wooded hills of western Bosnia in 1996, working in and around communities devastated during the last stages of the Bosnian war, this film covers the very different experiences of the men of 22 Engineer Regiment of the British Army as they spend six months trying to help put the country back together again. This film covers one squad of men as they work through several assignments, including that of building the biggest bridge in Bosnia to date. It finally shows them as they come home, weary and changed by their experience, with their ideas of what they want from life changed by their tour. As a counterpoint to the squad, the film also follows one recce sergeant through his time there, and see how his experiences -- moving around the battered houses and lush countryside in the south -- leads him to quite different conclusions about his role and the tour. The officers in charge of the deployment also offer their own insights into how men cope in this kind of rough environment. This film was shot in 1996 in Bosnia and the UK by Doug Grindle.
