Finally, I made it back to Banthat Thong Road , that famous walking street right in the university belt, just beside Chulalongkorn University, in the heart of Bangkok. I’ve actually been here before, but that was a long time ago, during the COVID period. I was just cycling through, and everything felt different back then. There wasn’t much to explore, and I didn’t really get the chance to wander around. The only other time I passed by was last year, and that visit was super quick. I had to bring my bike to a shop near ONE Stadium Mall, so again, no real exploration happened. But today was different. Finally, I got to experience the real vibe of Banthat Thong. The moment I started walking, I was overwhelmed , in a good way. Street food stalls everywhere. Local restaurants buzzing with energy. Coffee spots packed with students. Street shopping stalls lined up one after another. There were entertainers too, living statues, buskers performing along the sidewalks and even musical activities happening inside Chulalongkorn University Centenary Park. I honestly didn’t expect this many food options. It felt like every few steps, there was something new to try. Then came an unplanned twist, I randomly decided to get a haircut at one of the barber shops before dinner. Totally spontaneous. No appointment, no overthinking. Just one of those “why not?” moments. For dinner, I ended up choosing Pad Thai, which is actually not my usual go-to. I hadn’t had Pad Thai in years, and I was craving something lighter. I didn’t want a heavy, carb-loaded meal, and surprisingly, it turned out to be the perfect choice. Simple, satisfying, and just right for the night. I was also very intentional about where I sat. I chose a proper local restaurant that wasn’t too noisy or overcrowded. I wanted to enjoy the night vibe without being surrounded by chaos, just good food, a calm atmosphere, and the energy of the city in the background. Before heading fully into the park area, I picked up a MagSafe-compatible silicone case for my iPhone, another random but productive purchase of the night. Then I moved toward Centenary Park, and that’s when the evening became even more special. Around the park were more food stalls and even art activity booths. And finally, I found the dessert I had been craving. It’s called **Lod Chong Watjade, pandan noodles with palm sugar syrup and crushed ice. It’s somewhat similar to bingsu, but with that distinct Thai flavor. Light, refreshing, and absolutely perfect after dinner. Right beside the food stalls, there was a small musical event , possibly organized by the university. A featured saxophone soloist was playing a variety of songs, and the atmosphere was just beautiful. Some spectators even started dancing while the saxophonist played. It felt spontaneous, joyful, and very community-driven. What an evening, full of beautiful surprises, random decisions, food discoveries, music, and good vibes. I ended the night simply wandering around this lovely walking street, taking everything in. Banthat Thong truly hits differently when you experience it slowly.
