I must admit, how to begin this review is quite tough to figure out. But this season does signal a definitive shift in how Disney Speedstorm releases new content. While I enjoy the effort put into fanservicing the breadth of Disney and Pixar's most well-known content thus far, there's no denying that the content released feels... leaner. Earlier seasons and the 2022 summer beta testing, not to mention the full release of this game, stormed out the gate with racing courses having as many soundtracks as there are fingers on one hand, if not more. And newly-introduced characters showed the fullest-possible breadth of integration into Disney Speedstorm's gameplay style and mechanics. As in, every season up to this one had its featured franchise's characters be in either the Brawler, Speedster, Trickster or Defender classes. Including this one, the last three seasons of Disney Speedstorm introduced only two new soundtracks to their racing environments. And while new characters are always welcome to have, there's no denying that it's made for lesser variety implemented. The three new characters of the featured franchise, are of only two racer classes across them. And yes, I'm aware that the mid-season racers and featured racers that can be unlocked for free through normal gameplay make up for the other two classes, but I can't help but be of the belief that going for quantity over quality could diminish the potential of newly-introduced franchises going forward. Now, as for the season itself... Microbot Mayhem was impressive, and amazing. Even if there wasn't much in the way of newly-introduced content, the new characters were still a blast to race with, and truly embodied their portrayals in their origin works of entertainment. Whether it was Hiro being cool and confident, Honey Lemon's upbeat and energetic personality, Cinderella's impeccable elegance, or the ironic way Baymax actually befits a racing environment, it's clear that ample thought was put into these characters' presentations in the game. And the 'Immortals' mix for this game did not disappoint, being an absolute delight to listen to every time in the game. As for the special events, incorporating online multiplayer events was a nice touch; now I have a reason to play competitively online, and farm resources I normally would ignore. Lastly, there is an elephant in the room to be addressed... prior to this season's going live, Disney Speedstorm's news website stated this season would have 5 new characters from Big Hero 6 added to the game. Later on, another article was made available, reducing the number to 3 in order to 'release content faster', if I recall correctly. Which, to me, now means that two characters who were likely ready to go, were up and cut from the roster. I'm not going to hypothesize or guess as to whom those two racers would possibly be, but here's hoping they feature as mid-season racers in an upcoming season. The score I give for Disney Speedstorm's 13th season... is 9.0/10.
