Back in March this year (2024) I didn't know how much I would need a city break and art weekend when I registered for the Urban Sketchers Chicago Chapter's symposium weekend. I'm so glad I did. It was a great welcomed break that I needed after some bad months. Everyone was so welcoming. There was only me from Toronto taking the workshops. A couple from the Toronto chapter were there as well but they did the walking tours instead. While it was a truly hot weekend with a bit of rain, that didn't stop us. I had chosen workshops with Rachel Pasch Grossman, Joel Berman, Mark Jones (I missed putting that name on the video, I'm so sorry!) and Uma Kelkar. I just loved having a weekend of art. I also got to the Museum of Contemporary Art on the Friday and the Fine Art Building who had their monthly Second Friday Doors Open. At the latter a new friend and fellow sketcher joined me and we met some great artists, a celebrity bird and saw where string instruments are made for musicians all over. I had some hiccups with my flight going (thanks Air Canada!) but was able to get there a bit late. And then I left early on the Monday to avoid some more bad weather expected for Chicago and Toronto. Plus I got to go to Blick on Randolph. I was a bit disappointed in not getting some things that are apparently online only but that was ok. It gave my wallet a break and meant that the goody bag from the symposium would fit all right in my luggage. A video on that goody bag and my sketchbook from then will be up soon so subscribe so you don't miss that! If you don't want to see the art store tour skip to the 13 minute mark As always, be sure to check out my website. There are a load of things for fellow artists like colour charts that I swatch on this channel available for download as a pdf. There are art book reviews and instructions on how to make your own sketchbook (with video here on YouTube). I also have a list of art stores in different cities including Mexico City and my hometown of Toronto. Artists that inspire me that you can find on Instagram or YouTube as well as in an art history book are also listed as well as art podcasts and online courses. And you can purchase handmade watercolour through my website. You can also see what I take when I'm urban sketching. https://www.eileenreillyarts.com/ or follow me on Instagram @eileenreillyarts and @ot.to_watercolour Music: PowerDirector365
