PUERTO RICAN DIASPORA PLEASE READ AND LISTEN: Law Act 22 (now Act 60) was created to peovide big tax breaks to people outside of Puerto Rico under Fortuño’s hyper-corrupt government to create a Puerto Rico without Puerto Ricans, as revealed in the leaked Ricardo Rossello chats. Rossello combined Act 20 & Act 22 into Act 60 composed of 11 chapters offering tax incentives, signing it into law days before his forced resignation. Of the 11 chapters under Act 60, local Puerto Ricans are only eligible for two when they should be for ALL 11 CHAPTERS. Act 60 has aggressively escalated our corrupt government’s agenda of settler colonizing the island. In addition, austerity measures have worsened threatening civil service workers pay for a dignified salary and pension. Due to Act 60, many disaster capitalists investors have been hoard purchasing properties either displacing the tenants from the community to turn the property into vacation rentals (they receive big tax incentives on including property tax breaks) or “flipping” the properties selling at prices out of reach for most Puerto Ricans whose median annual salary is $20,000. In addition, many of the wealthy people moving in under Act 60 have infiltrated into corruption of the government forming quid pro quo relationships for kickbacks. There are many cases of public beaches being illegally privatized, taking advantage of the government’s incompetence by building on protected land and destroying natural resources. Puerto Rico is the native land of Puerto Ricans and we are seeing settler colonialism violently playing out. If it continues, Puerto Ricans will feel like outsiders on their own ancestral land. The world needs to be made aware of the exploitation happening through Act 60, La Junta’s austerity measures, LUMA’s ineptitude, the deterioration of education and health services and the continued blatant corruption of the Puerto Rico government.
