Union Pacific 3985 Egbert, Wyoming to Cheyenne locomotive shop.

This was the last excursion for the 3985 before it went to the Cheyenne shops for it's 15 year inspection and overhaul. This excursion was a non passenger run except for members associated with the crew. Railroad traffic was extremely heavy this day and most trains were moving slowly. Despite rumors, the 3985 is currently being overhauled but is not a priority. The Union Pacific 844 is the priority followed by the restoration the the Big boy. We start at Egbert, Wyoming and end at the Union Pacific steam shop where the locomotives are kept and overhauled. Check out the ancient telegraph poles at 2:08 which are likely from the original 1869 transcontinental rail line. The old red, roundhouse is what is left over from the original Cheyenne roundhouse and is used for both locomotive and passenger car storage. The many locomotives and cars scattered through out the yard is used for parts as well as future displays.
