Cathy: We had an amazing cuddle party, it was so much fun. Reid: You are a Cuddle Party facilitator. Cathy: I am. Reid: Why don't you tell people what you think are Cuddle Party is and why you like to cuddle? Cathy: I love throwing cuddle parties. I was terrified when I went to my first one. I really didn't know what was going to happen and it was so safe and so wonderful. It starts out with the workshop where people practice, yes and no and asking for what they want, which so few of us get to ever do. It's set up, Reid, you set it up brilliantly, so that people get to know each other so you're not sitting in a room full of strangers, you start, you're doing silly workshopy things and talking to each other. Once you realized that everyone in the room has heard no and not freaked out, there's a sense of safety. Halfway through the workshop, part of my first cuddle party, I was determined to be a facilitator. I already decided. Reid: For those of you who still don't know what a cuddle party is, it's a communication workshop around non-sexual touch and intimacy and the format in this three and a half hour event is that we have the welcome circle in the beginning and the ice-breaking exercises so that people who might be strangers to one another don't feel like strangers anymore. The rest of the event, you get to practice your communication tools and skill sets and inviting people around creating, whatever touch, what socializing you would like that's non-sexual. Cathy: It's been a really great way to both community, the people that come, a lot of them come back every time and it's just is really fun and really beautiful.
