Artificial intelligence (AI) is an area of computer science that aspires to develop computer software that mimics aspects of human intelligence, such as learning, logical reasoning and problem solving, perceptions, and language use. Given its enormous potential, could AI be used to improve patient outcomes in medicine? Breast cancer inflicts a heavy toll on society. One out of seven women will be diagnosed with breast cancer during their lifetime, a fraction of them contributing to about 450,000 deaths annually worldwide. AI could play a role in supporting our understanding of cancer prevention through recent advances in machine learning, natural language processing, and computer vision.
