Basically as we understand fibroids are muscle overgrowths. They are on the uterus and they are of three varieties. If they are outside the uterus outside on the lining of the wall, they are called as subserous. If they are within the musculature, they are called as intramural, they may or may not cause a problem. When they are outside the uterus, they are absolutely not going to cause any trouble to you. The problems comes when they are submucus, that is they go within the lining of the uterus and they cause heavy bleeding, that is the time when a surgery is needed. These fibroids have to be treated only when they are troubling you, causing a heavy flow, pain during periods, or if the size has become so large, causing pressure symptoms, they go and cause pressure on the surrounding structures, that is the only time when surgery is needed. Now infact we have certain miracle drugs also which do help in shrinking the size of the fibroid to a certain extent, but these can be used for certain people who are so severely anemic, having a low hemoglobin level that thy do not get a fitness for a surgery and it has a very temporary effect, so if you want to shrink the size of the fibroid , there are certain drugs and injectables available, you can consult with your doctor. But these are all temporary effects and the final treatment would mean a surgery if any of the problems have come forward to you.
