K&L Wine Merchant's Rhône Buyer Keith Mabry reviews two wines from one of his favorite producers in the Northern Rhône, Yves Cuilleron. This winemaker is one of the cornerstones for Condrieu, and his entire range of wines is exquisite. Yves Cuilleron is one of the great winemakers of Condrieu. He is based in the village of Chavanay, just south of Condrieu with familial roots going back a century. His grandfather was the first to bottle wine for commercial purposes in his village. Yves assumed control of the estate from his uncle Antoine in 1987. He increased the exposure of wines from Condrieu but also gained holdings in nearby Côte-Rotie and in St-Péray, far to the south. His flagship wine is the "Petite Côte" Condrieu. The vines are planted on the terraced slopes in Chavanay with south, south-west exposure gaining maximum morning sunlight. It is aged for 9 months in barrel with regular battonage. Creamy, rich and almost decadent, this is an incredible expression of Condrieu that rivals those of Vernay and Guigal. A must try! The "Petite Côte" Condrieu and "Cavanos" St-Joseph Vieilles Vignes are available on K&L's website klwines.com: 2018 Yves Cuilleron "La Petite Côte" Condrieu $39.99 (Elsewhere $60) https://www.klwines.com/p/i?i=1486965 2017 Yves Cuilleron "Cavanos" St-Joseph Vieilles Vignes $29.99 (Elsewhere $35) https://www.klwines.com/p/i?i=1530078
