Definitely one of the scariest moments of my life. Colombia is an amazing country, but it does come with many more risks than the average tourist destination. I made this video to be fully transparent of the dangers that possibly come with going here and my personal experience. Overall I've had a great time so far in the country, but this was a terrible experience to go through. Santa Marta is a popular destination for tourists, but just like any of the major cities in the country, there are certain precautions you should take and I hope my story will be helpful for you before considering coming here. If you are going to be abroad for a long time and/or don't need as much coverage, I would recommend SafetyWing. BUT you cannot purchase SafetyWing WHILE in Canada or USA. You can only purchase once already abroad. Hey Mondo is more expensive but offers a higher level of coverage including plans that have trip cancellation/interruption insurance. Hey Mondo would be the better insurance to use if you need travel medical insurance when applying for a visa. Both companies cover covid.
