How do I stop leaking after birth? https://www.fyzical.com/oklahoma-city... I’m discussing “How can I stop leaking after childbirth?” Here is my pelvis, our pelvic floor muscles are slinging from our pubic bone all the way to our tailbone. A tailbone or coccyx injury during pregnancy will throw off the length of your pelvic floor muscles and that can make your pelvic floor weak. All of our muscles in our body have a proper length-tension relationship. So, if our tailbone got messed up during childbirth which it can, it needs to be put into the right spot so that you can do a proper contraction. Nobody likes to talk about it, but when we have vaginal deliveries we can have tears in our pelvic floors. We have to let those heal because those are going to affect how strong our pelvic floor muscles are. If you did have a really bad tear, the worst case scenario is a tear all the way back to your anus and this is going to leave you with an inherent weakness in your pelvic floor. You have to let that heal and then you do want to be able to do good strong kegels that are properly coordinated If you're having difficulty, or you don't know how to do a pelvic floor muscle contraction come see me, go to your local pelvic floor physical therapist, make sure you're doing it properly. It shouldn't have to happen with a butt squeeze, it shouldn't happen with your legs squeezing together, but you do have to get them strong. You need to be able to contract 10 times for 10 seconds and also do 10 Quickflick Kegels. Contract and relax fully in a second 10 times. You shouldn’t have difficulty relaxing it, but a lot of women do. In fact, most women, until they go to Pelvic Floor Physical Therapy do not really know how to do a proper pelvic floor contraction or Kegel. If you have any other questions about leaking urine after childbirth, don't hesitate to ask ([email protected]). I am Dr. Lauren Collier Peterson Clinical Director and Doctor of Physical Therapy here at FYZICAL Therapy & Balance Centers of Oklahoma City. Don't be shy drop me a line.
