RACH is triggered in different scenarios, ensuring smooth connectivity and network reliability. Types of RACH Trigger in 5G NR 1. Initial Access – When a UE connects to the 5G network for the first time or after being powered on. 2. Handover – When the UE moves from one cell to another and needs to establish a new connection. 3. Beam Failure Recovery – When a beam link is lost, the UE triggers RACH to re-establish communication. 4. Radio Link Failure (RLF) Recovery – If the connection between the UE and gNB is lost due to poor signal, RACH is triggered. 5. UL Synchronization Loss – If the UE loses uplink synchronization, it triggers RACH to re-align with the gNB. 6. Scheduling Request (SR) Failure – If the UE fails to get an uplink grant, it may trigger RACH to request resources again. RACH can be either Contention-Based (CBRA), where multiple UEs compete for access, or Contention-Free (CFRA), where dedicated resources are assigned by the network. These mechanisms help optimize network entry and mobility management in 5G.
