We Booked a SECRET SRI LANKA TRAIN Last Minute! 🇱🇰 Ella Odyssey to Colombo

Not a secret but most tourists don't know about special Sri Lanka trains, including the Ella Odyssey where you don't need to book 30 days in advance. We went to the Ella train station 48 hours before and booked a train no problem. In fact this train wasn't fully booked. There was NO ONE in First Class, which is understandable as the windows don't open and you don't need AC. But 2nd and 3rd class were also not full, because most people do not know about the non-standard trains, which are primarily for tourists as they are more expensive. But I think it's still a great price for a Sri Lankan train. The costs to go from Ella to Colombo were: First Class: LKR 5000 = $16.99 USD Second Class: LKR 4000 = $13.59 USD Third Class: LKR 3000 = $10.20 USD If you don't want to take a chance you can book this train and others online here: https://getyourguide.tp.st/UfvwUXKT We booked second class and were the only ones on our car because it was facing the opposite direction. And people freely moved from car to car. There was no rush or fighting to get photos or the iconic Sri Lankan train videos as everyone was polite and took their turn with more than enough open doors and windows. If you take the regular train and don't book ahead you're forced to take 3rd class which does not have reserved seats.
