Stanley Clarke… Wow!!!! I was right up front. Stood outside for an hour + to get the best seat in the house. When this melody began, the power of his sound resonated through everything! It was a joy to experience the man’s tone right in front of the speakers. As soon as it started I was almost in tears and that’s the power of listening to something so profound that as a player we don’t get to experience, this feeling purely happens as a listener… Hence why it’s so important to LISTEN when playing! And what a position to listen to it. It was such a powerful performance! I was at the show the night before and unfortunately I was one of the last people in the building… My seat was bad. But when this song kicked in the power of it was magical… The same effect. I was almost in tears… I had to come and hear that again! Stanley Clarke was and still is my hero. As a child and now more so. He is the father of electric bass. And what a bass he plays. An Alembic Series 2 “They are the best” as he mentioned to me after his show. I was honoured to have experienced that and I am so happy I recorded it for you all. This was the last performance of that residency at Blue Note LA, the room was full of bassists and actors and folks from all over, there to experience his greatness. Enjoy the master. His touch and cadenza, melody, approach. It’s all a master class. A lesson and experience that unfortunately it does not translate well on video. Anyway headphones on and ☺️ enjoy.
