This wonderful version of Carol of the Birds can be found on "A Celtic Christmas", "Holly and the Ivy", and "The Holly and the Ivy: Carols on the Celtic Harp". Both are available at Amazon.com and other outlets. "Irish Harp Songs", and Flying Dreams are other albums by Emily. The Carol of the Birds is a traditional Catalonian carol called El Cant Dels Ocells. Victoria de los Angeles sung it at the closing ceremony of the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona. • Видео . The spanish lyrics she sings can be found at http://www.angelfire.com/me/music17/e.... An English translation of it is also there. The lyrics that Emily sings here are the same as those sung by Joan Baez in 1966 on her album "Noel". My 2009 upload of that was also taken down in 2013. John Jacob Niles' wrote his own version of The Carol of the Birds circa 1942. Based on the same theme as the Catalonian version, John's song is very different in style and lyrics. He was a famous collector of American Folk Music, and a lute and dulcimer player, as well as a composer too. His version was written for his 4-year-old son Tom, and dedicated to Gladys Swarthout, who first performed it. She was an American mezzo-soprano opera singer and entertainer whose recordings can be found at various outlets, and many at You Tube. You can hear Brocelïande performing John's song at • "CAROL OF THE BIRDS" - BROCELIANDE . Beautiful as her singing is, It is for her acclaimed harp playing that Emily is better known. She is based in the USA, and has sung and played all over the world. She won first prize in the International Harp Contest in Israel in 1979. She was principal harpist for the Eos Orchestra for many years, and has worked with the New Haven Symphony, American Symphony Orchestras, and the New York City Ballet. Her life has been dedicated to promoting the Harp, and she is in demand worldwide to teach classes. She has played on over 70 film scores including Aladdin, Grey's Anatomy, and The Good Shepherd. She has performed and recorded with many singers such as Michael Jackson, Carly Simon, Diana Krall, Ray Charles, Barry Manilow, Bette Midler and Natalie Cole. (thank you to http://steinhardt.nyu.edu for the above information) This is a re-upload of the video I made 2 years ago. I am gradually restoring some of the videos I had to take down in May, 2013. Lyrics ( which are also in the video) When rose the eastern star The birds came from afar In that full might of glory With one melodious voice They sweetly did rejoice And sang the wondrous story Sang, praising God on high Enthroned above the sky And His fair mother, Mary The eagle left his lair Came winging through the air His message loud arising And to his joyous cry The sparrow made reply His answer sweetly voicing "Overcome are death and strife This night is born new life" The robin sang rejoicing When rose the eastern star The birds came from afar
