"Yourenigma hasn't released a classical-styled worked in ages. He's given up on the genre!" False. Truth be told, I thought of this piece practically the moment the season finale ended. It represents a couple of things. Primarily, it's a tone poem of sorts depicting the rise of the glorious Queen Chrysalis! Oh, and Princess Cadence and her Husband, them too. It is also a sort of thesis of mine. You see, this past semester, I took a class on the development and relevance of the symphonic poem and its ability to communicate extramusical details musically. I hope in this respect, it's a success. Queen Chrysalis commands chromaticism. All of her themes rely upon it to some extent. In stark contrast, Cadence and Shining Armor's romance theme is widely-spaced and, if your ears are very good, is based on the gushy romance theme from the show for Spike and Rarity. It opens with a grumbly presto fuoco, the fierce Queen Chrysalis flexing her muscles in a hefty piano cadenza which cadences right into her main theme. Brushing it away is a kernel of E-flat major, a proper romanza for cadence and shining armor. Ah, but Chrysalis has other plans. Another episode in c minor leads to a note for note statement of Mendelssohn's Wedding March, quickly corrupted before another brief cadenza ushers the love theme back to save the day and smite any vestiges of Chrysalis from the work. I truly hope you enjoy this piece. Hasbro owns everything, I just put the bits together. Featured artwork: http://elmodesigns.deviantart.com/art...
