We're in the Hawkes Bay exploring, starting of in Napier and checking the art deco style that developed form the 1931 earthquake... ... 🎬 Check out our video editing course — https://danegerandstacey.com/video-ed... ⬇ More Below ⬇ Hawkes Bay is a really popular destination to travel in New Zealand, yet neither of us have really spent much time in the region as adults — so exploring Napier (and Havelock North + Hastings soon) has been on our list for a loooong time. After spending a few days exploring and seeing the art deco seen we regret not getting here sooner! The 1931 Napier earthquake was devastating, it rumbled for around three minutes, killing 256 people and absolutely demolishing the commercial centre of Napier. It was wider than just Napier though, lots of locations throughout Hawkes bay were impacted, but it seems like central Napier took the brunt of the force. So to learn more about the earthquake, and find the coolest way to see the city, we hunted out one of the top things to do and connected up with Art Deco Trust for a classic car tour. As the rebuild kicked into gear Art Deco styling was the go to — it was modern, on trend, cheap and safe! The Art deco style is preserved in the city and they even host events that bring people from around the world!
