Strasbourg is an Unesco world heritage site in the region called Alsace. A region that has been part of France and Germany, alternately, many times. This is partly why the EU has a presence of Government buildings in this town. The whole region is rich in exquisite half-timbered towns and villages, with names hinting to the shared German past. French Christmas Markets & German Christmas Markets rolled into one in this magnificent and beautiful city. Strasbourg - Capitale de Noël. This a night time walking tour of several spots in the city. What makes this european christmas market special is that the whole town is turned into Christmas Market. Just like in Colmar. The streets leading from market to market are decorated and illuminated. Of course the famous "Bear House" on the Rue des Tailleurs de Pierre (Stonemasons road). But it is everywhere. Along the river. In the window shops of little boutiques. On the facade of the great Galeries Lafayette Strasbourg (near Place Kléber). It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas, indeed. It is not called the Bear House, but we thought most would recognise such a description. It is located on "Rue Des Tailleur de Pierre". Tailleur: tailors. Pierre: stone. Stonemasons street. It sits in between the famour illuminated christmas arch "Porte d'entrée de la Capital de Noël" on Rue du Vieux-Marché-Poissons (the old fish markets) and the Cathedral Notre Dame. The street has changed names many times. It was also called "Steinmetsgässel" because of the numerous stonecutters located around the Cathedral. Cathedral Strasbourg Cathedral or the Cathedral of Our Lady of Strasbourg, also known as Strasbourg Minster, is a Catholic cathedral in Strasbourg, Alsace, France. Although considerable parts of it are still in Romanesque architecture, it is widely considered to be among the finest examples of Rayonnant Gothic architecture. The largest Christmas Market of Strasbourg is around the Cathedral: from the front all the way around. Petit France The stunning and cute neighbourhood of Little France. Petite France is the city's lively tourist hub, known for cobblestone streets, canals, and well-preserved half-timbered homes like the Tanners’ House, built in 1572. A terrace atop the 17th-century Barrage Vauban, a covered bridge and dam, offers panoramic views. Alsatian eateries dot the area, while shops on and around Grand’Rue sell clothing and souvenirs such as crockery, wine, and specialty teas. Kléber Next to the Cathedral, this is the second biggest Christmas Market in Strasbourg. Arch Porte d'entrée de la Capital de Noël.
