Why did Australia Ignore Indonesia's Invasion of East Timor?

This video is a short documentary covering the history of East Timor, Indonesia and Australia from the Cold War and Decolonisation through to the 1990's. It discusses the invasion of East Timor by Indonesia and seeks to answer the question: "Why did Australia Ignore Indonesia's Invasion of East Timor?" In December 1975, Indonesia invaded East Timor only weeks after the Timorese had established themselves as an independent nation free of Portuguese administration. Why did Indonesia invade East Timor and why did Australia not help one of their closest neighbours? Although Indonesia's Suharto fell from power in 1998 and East Timor, now Timor-Leste, finally gained true independence in 1999, the legacy of these events is still seen today in the ongoing trial of Witness K and the only recently renegotiated Timor Sea Boundary with Australia.
