More and more, society requires knowledge of the risk to which people, property and the environment are exposed. The objective of Dr. Lacasse’s Evans Lecture is to demonstrate that one can implement, with benefit, concepts of hazard, risk and reliability to assist in design, decision-making and engineering recommendations. The Evans Lectureship, presented by the University of Washington Civil & Environmental Engineering department, provides opportunities to expose students and practitioners of engineering to the concepts, challenges, concerns and methods of the major disciplines with which they will be expected to interact in their careers and to deepen their understanding of engineering.
