A leading member of Cambodia's opposition movement, Kem Sokha, is in Charlotte, North Carolina to observe the Democratic National Convention some two months before Americans will vote for president. Kem Sokha is among the "more than 300 international political leaders and diplomats from more than 100 countries" invited by the National Democratic Institute (NDI) "to observe the convention proceedings firsthand." Speaking to VOA Khmer in Charlotte, the Human Rights Party president praised the fairness of the U.S. electoral system where both parties have equal access in the media. "I would like to see Cambodia organize the election in a way that each political party can have equal access to the media especially during the campaign period. I also want to see the freedom to campaign without fear, intimidation, vote buying and violence," he said. Kem Sokha and other NDI guests will participate in a series of panel discussions organized to explore the progress of representative government around the world. VOA Khmer's Reasey Poch reports.
