Few would recognise the sports pioneers of Singapore. They are the everyday “aunties” and “uncles” at the coffee shops and HDB void decks. Some has passed on, some forgotten, and many are still walking amongst us today. When the Stars Align is a documentary about Singapore’s first three women Olympians’ trailblazing spirit in the 1950s, when society's perception of women and sports were conservative. Times were difficult and there was very minimal support for sports back then. This film is in honour of their courage, perseverance and candor to life. The title When the Stars Align is synonymous to the lives of the three protagonists: Having experienced the Olympic Games, and influenced each other in the realm of athletics. As their paths crossed, they inadvertently left a legacy for the younger generations. Their life after sports was a beginning of yet another race to where they are today. Funded by Honour Singapore and supported by the SNOC, watch this special director's cut version of the documentary by filmmakers Brenda Er and Jasmine Teh as they embarked on a journey of discovery and formed new friendships with Tang Pui Wah, Mary Klass and Janet Jesudason.
