Neugier - The Journey Home is an Action Rpg for the Super Nintendo/Famicom, but has seen releases on other systems of the era. It was Developed by Wolf Team, and Published by Renovation. The game's English fan-translation was relased in 2006 by Haeleth, RPGONE. STORY: 14/20 You play as Duke, an exiled Prince from Neugier, upon hearing tales of bad happenings, and missfortunes in Neugier you decide to travel back to see what exactly is going on in your home country. It turns out Pirates have been given free reign and they are lead by some mysterious witch and a cloaked figure. GRAPHICS: 12/20 The graphics are quite dark and dingy, the color pallet used for this game is well, less than what you'd expect from a SNES/SFC game, it ALMOST loks like it's a NES game. Colour pallet used causes some areas to blend to much so it looks like floors and walls are the same thing which is really bad 'cos it makes you feel like struggling to find where to go. Monsters and bosses look okay, some characters look okay, like Secia and you also, which is nice. Area designs.. some look okay but dark, and then other areas look a complete mess because of tilesets nto blending well together, it just looks a complete mess at times, which is a shame. SOUND: 10/20 The sound is okay, the OST aint Zelda, of Final Fantasy standard but it aint just blips and beeps.. it does however sound extremely old, the OST hasnt aged well at all. Sound effects are.. well, limited and often sounds a little muffled or grainy, especially when you swing your sword. GAMEPLAY: 12/20 So, the game is a very simple Action RPP based style of genre, so think Zelda type of thing. You defeat monsters, whilst exploring Neugier and solving puzzles and jumping all over the place. The jupin feels really loose and fast so when trying to make jump things can get tricky even for the simplist looking of jumps. Monsters each has their own attack styles, though most will move towards you no matter. Attacking the enemy is just simply swinging your sword at them BUT the sword is so small and flimsy you often miss which results in you being hit no matter what. The game is set into a chapters based style, so if you die and continue you will start right back at the start of the chapter and NOT where you saved at, unless you quit the game and reload, this is annoying. I also find the game very odd considering there is NO menu at all, so you cant see what items you have on hand, or what you've got equipped, the only menu you can see really is the SAVE menu. So logically speaking, the game hasn't really got much in the way of gameplay, and what there is of it.. it's short and often frustrating. TRANSLATION: 12/20 In all honesty, the actual hacking and stuff is perfect, there's no overflow of text or errors or anything as such BUT what lets this translation down is the mess that is the story, it just feels cut to hell, so theres huge gaps in the story itself. For example, the King: "here take this key nd go to your room." You get there, the witch is there then you leave, king: "I knew you was trying to take her from me." So why the FK give you the key in the first place? It just dont make sense, and it get worse later on also, it's just terrible writing. That said, its not entirely a bad translation for what it is. OVER ALL: 60/100 Yeah, it's not a fantastic Action-RPG by any means, but it is one thats playable as long as you can cope with nusences it has. Would I recommend this today..? Well, depends really on if you've played mostly all the other better SNES/SFC Action-RPG games on the system or not. ------------------------------------------------------------------------- Have you played this game?
