Sheet Music Direct: (link coming soon) Sheet Music Plus: (link coming soon) Jalousie is a tango composed by Danish composer Jacob Gade in 1925. There are two main themes in the composition. The first is “a temperamental theme” in D minor followed by a lyrical section in D major. Gade’s composition has two sources of inspiration. The first was by a violent thunderstorm that surprised him one day while he was out on a walk. The other source of inspiration came from a jealousy murder, which was much talked about in those days, and was reported in the newspapers. The first performance was set for September 14, 1925, and Gade himself played the opening violin cadenza of the tango. About the Arrangement This arrangement is written for concert band, but retains the original keys of the music (D minor and D major). The opening cadenza has many options available for performance. The score and parts have the complete cadenza split between the flute and clarinet parts and keep it within a more comfortable range on each instrument. Other options include extra “solo” parts with the entire cadenza written for Flute, Clarinet, Trumpet, and Violin. If using these parts, the none soloist Flute 1’s and Clarinet 1’s should only play the “tutti” parts until the end of the cadenza.
