Dog Island - Part 1: Inshore and Surf Fishing

I spent the first week of Spring Gag Grouper Season on Dog Island, FL. I got in a little inshore and surf fishing time before opening grouper day. The trout aren't biting as aggressively as they do later in the summer, but I still put a few in the boat. There was a ton of action on the beach, mostly whiting and catfish but I also caught a small red and a 3' bonnethead shark. I was hoping to catch some of the giant bull redfish that Dog Island is known for, but it looks like I'll have to wait until next time. It was a great week on the island!
