"Chronic conditions, such as heart disease, stroke, cancer, diabetes, they’re common, they’re costly, and they’re highly preventable," says Judith Lichtman, former Chair of the Chronic Disease Epidemiology Department at the Yale School of Public Health. "And are also becoming much more prominent globally." The mission of the Chronic Disease Epidemiology Department (CDE) is to advance the health of the public by promoting a research-based approach to the prevention and management of chronic disease, and to educate future leaders of the field. In this video, Lichtman discusses the department's work on cancer risk factors and recovery, the association between discrimination and heart disease, the impact of health inequities on recurrent stroke rates, and health messaging across different communities.
