Solo through Hell's Gate in Macquarie Hbr and 18hrs N to anchor in Cuvier Bay, Hunter Island

Leaving Macquarie Hbr means passing through the narrows of Hell's Gate and then on through the exit channel, staying very close to the West Breakwater in order to avoid running aground in the extensive shallows to the E. Then it was well over 18hrs of big seas in a 3-4 m swell, making for a rough passage north to Hunter Island off the NW tip of Tasmania. I had to make a big detour to avoid breakers on several rocks and shallows on my way to anchor in good protection in the NW corner of Cuvier Bay. The crashing of the waves seen breaking on the outside of the rocks and shoal areas nearby was spectacular but we were gently rocking in a very slight swell in this pretty place.
