Hello everyone. In this video we look at the the area that I believe was once the Schuylkill navigation system dam 16 and locks 28 and 29. The dan was known as the Blue Mountain dam and would have been constructed in 1827 with an attached 5 chamber lock system. The canal was upgraded in 1846 turning the 5 chambers into locks 28 and 29. The dam would have been a feeder dam. It is apparent that a lot of this structure is under silt from flooding over the decades and the current New Kernsville Dam possibly hides more remains under its slack water. Next is the Allentown and Auburn. This railroad was going to connect the the Lehigh River with the Susquehanna. The route began in Allentown and made its way through Berks county before heading northwest towards Hamburg, Port Clinton, and finally Auburn. There a junction with the Schuylkill and Susquehanna would have continued through Schuylkill and Dauphin Counties and on towards the PRR at the Susquehanna River. Alas A&A was abandoned before tracks were laid. This wall dates to around 1856. Thank you for watching. 3/15/25
