The Rolex Submariner reference 1680 was introduced in the late-1960s and was manufactured until 1980. The Submariner 1680 is a popular vintage Rolex watch to collect since it was the very first Submariner to include a date window on the dial. However, there is a specific variant within the 1680 family known as the Red Submariner that’s the most coveted of all. As its nickname suggests, the Rolex Red Submariner 1680 includes a red SUBMARINER inscription on the dial. Rolex eventually replaced the red version with an all-white text Submariner 1680 in the mid-1970s. 𝗪𝗮𝘁𝗰𝗵 𝗜𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗴𝗵𝘁𝘀 Military used Rolex Submariner "Red" MK4 Ref: 1680 that has papers from US military base in Italy dated 1973. While not officially issued by any known unit, it is a "military" used piece as it was purchased by a serviceman on base. Interestingly, case back has what I assume is a unit number with "We Happy Few" also etched with the numbers 292 spelt out as "Two Nine Two". In the center of the case back is the initials CJS which I assume is the initials of the diver. Together with the accessories such as the original box and guarantee booklet, there is also a diver's depth gauge which is battered and worn. 40mm Automatic Stainless steel case with solid caseback. Original black dial with aged patina markers and hand in beautiful condition without any noticeable blemishes. MK 4, feet first "open 6". Stainless steel screwed down crown. Original folded bracelet marked 9315, fitted with a newer 93150 clasp. 2.76 mil series. Box and papers dtd 1973. ** An interesting piece of watch, guarantee booklet reflects purchase as made from USA Navy Exchange in Italy. Case back stamp with the above described military numbers. ** Condition of watch is pretty decent, clear bevels at watch case. #monstertimegallery #Rolex #rolex1680 #rolexredsub #redsub #rolexvintage #vintage #vintagewatch
