EOS R5 firmware 1.8.1's headline feature is the introduction of Canon's implementation of pixel-shift multi-shot high resolution imaging. Unfortunately, while this sounds good in practice, and can be a very useful feature in some niches, Canon's implementation of this feature is underwhelming at best. In their apparent quest to one up the competition, Canon has chosen to implement this as an in camera compositing operation. Instead of spitting out a series of pixel shifted raws (or JPEGs) for you to process later in software of your choosing, Canon combines the images in camera to produce a single 402 MP high resolution JPEG image. Compounding this, Canon's implementation of the compositing process can produce matrix artifacts in the output image on high contrast areas that have motion. All told, whether this is ultimately a useful feature for you will be highly dependent on not only your needs, but the exact subject matter you're shooting as well. ══════════════════════ Gear I Use to Make Videos ══════════════════════ (Affiliate links) ⯈ Canon EOS R5 - https://amzn.to/3uJNNVI ⯈ Canon EOS R5C - ⯈ Anker 747 USB Power Bank for R5C - https://amzn.to/3i5hIEd ⯈ Canon RF 15-35mm f/2.8L IS USM - https://amzn.to/37SuLDw ⯈ Canon EF 16-35mm f/4L IS USM - https://amzn.to/3Oi7YBO ⯈ Canon RF 24-70mm f/2.8L IS USM - https://amzn.to/3M9I0yQ ⯈ Rode NTG2 - ⯈ Rode Wireless Go - ⯈ Zoom F6 - https://amzn.to/2TWsSvo ══════════════════════ Chapters ══════════════════════ 00:00 Intro 00:37 What is IBIS High Resolution Shot? 03:31 Limitations 09:04 Setup and Shooting 11:22 Comparing Quality 17:25 Conclusions and Recommendations
