Galactic Wipeout is an arcade game from RH Software for the BBC Micro. It was released in 1983. You have to clear a galaxy of enemy craft so that Earth's population can move there. I guess in this game you are the evil invaders.... Your craft starts in the centre of the screen and like the game Asteroids, you can turn left or right, fire your gun and move forward with thrust. The blue spacefield has a map at top right, which allows you to determine the positions of the various enemies. It is then up to you to track them down, destroy them all and then you can move on to the next screen full of them. Unlike Asteroids, you are not restricted to one screen. The playfield is several screens in each direction, so you have quite a bit of space to play in, though it is quite empty apart from your opponents. There are a variety of these to face, each with their own graphics, movement patterns and, for some, attack style. Unfortunately, the graphics are very small and the enemy movements not very interesting. This is a shame, but it does mean that the game is not that easy - your opponents are tiny! The game does bear some resemblance in game style to a very cut down version of Starship Command by Acornsoft, but the Acornsoft game is far superior in every way. Galactic Wipeout feels more like a game from a few years before, when the ideas were there but the programming knowledge was still at a nascent stage.
