On 1 June 2020, exactly 170 years after it first opened on 1 June 1850, regular train traffic recommenced over the Negrelli Viaduct in Prague, following three years of comprehensive reconstruction. Named after its builder, the renowned engineer Alois Negrelli (1799-1858), the landmark bridge is 1110 m long and has 100 arched spans, which made it the longest railway bridge in Continental Europe for 60 years and until 1910. Today it is still the longest railway bridge in the Czech Republic and the second oldest in Prague, after the medieval Charles Bridge. The thorough renovation of the Negrelli Viaduct took almost 3 years, lasting from July 2017 to May 2020, with brush-up finishing works continuing, even once trains started running again. This film was made between 1 and 3 June 2020, showing the typical types of train movements over the bridge. The Negrelli Viaduct is only used for regional and commuter services, with all domestic and international long distance trains being routed through the main station Praha hl. n. Therefore, primarily electric double-deckers and diesel railcars run over the bridge, which also spans the River Vltava island Štvanice. Seit Jahren rollt aber nur noch Regionalverkehr über die Brücke, überwiegend durch Dieseltriebwagen oder elektrische Doppelstockzüge abgewickelt. Nur zur Hauptverkehrszeit verkehren noch einzelne, mit Lokomotiven bespannte Garnituren. Während Prag die längste von Alois Negrelli erbaute Brücke hat, so darf sich auch Zürich mit einem schönen Negrelli-Bauwerk schmücken, nämlich der Münsterbrücke über die Limmat vor dem Fraumünster. Diese wurde 1836-38 nach den Plänen von Negrelli erbaut. Weil Negrelli auch beim Bau der Spanisch-Brötli-Bahn nach Baden beteiligt war, wird zu seinen Ehren in Zürich auch der Negrellisteg das Gleisfeld überspannen und eine neue Verbindung für Fussgänger und Velofahrer gewährleisten.
