Hope you like my latest Derby Time Traveller series video, in this one we are on a small triangle of land between the inner ring road (A52) and Nottingham Road where once flowed the Derby Canal. Unless your into Derby history then you may not even be aware that a canal used to run in front of the houses on Nottingham Road. There is one thing in my video that is present in both views 61 years apart and that is the Liversage Trust houses on Nottingham Road, Derby. Before Derby inner ring road was built, Pegg's bridge carried Erasmus Street over to join with Nottingham Road. The South end of Erasmus Street connected to Darwin Terrace and Derwent Row where the White Bear pub was located which was next to Whitebear lock which you would use to navigate across the river Derwent against Long Bridge (demolished). Pegg's bridge was quite a narrow hump backed bridge and was one way but on Fridays they would reverse the traffic flow due to it being such a busy route ! To the right of Pegg's bridge 170m (573ft) the Derby canal went under the Midland Mainline railway track. To the left of Pegg's bridge 150m (493ft) the Derby canal went under Derwent Street East and then through Phoenix lock and onto the River Derwent above the weir near the Silk Mill near Saint Marys bridge. Best viewed on a large screen in full screen mode. Derby Past & Present - in fading Photographs. High quality resolution fading photos showing local scenes as they were and how they are today from exactly the same view point. Then and now, Now and then, Past and Present, Old and New, Before and After. Call it what you want, just try one and see the effect! My presentations are the result of many hours of work put in by myself ensuring that the old and new photographs line up precisely, I don't publish any if I'm not 100% happy with the match. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Music Credits : 'The Things That Keep Us Here' by Scott Buckley - released under CC-BY 4.0. www.scottbuckley.com.au ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Information on my drone flying : ● My drone is a Class C0 drone sub-250g type, because its such a lightweight drone (236g), I'm allowed to fly it over residential and commercial property and people (but not crowds) without permission. ● I passed the theory test and have both valid flyer ID and Operator ID's. ● I have drone insurance (£5 million public liability insurance cover). ● I strictly follow all the CAA guidelines on flying my drone. ● I always fly in Cinematic mode (slow speed) as this is safer in urban environments. ● I plan all of my flights in advance of taking off to ensure I know my complete flight path and am aware of any obstacles in the way. ● In order to maintain VLOS (visual line of sight) with my drone I use extremely bright Strobe lights, if there are trees or buildings in my way then I have to land and carry on from a different location this means that I often have to join bits of flights together, I try and line up edits using telemetry to match altitude and position etc. but its not always possible to get good joins in clips so this can mean jump cuts and fades between clips. ● I carry out a risk assessment before each flight and ensure all batteries fully charged, GPS has a good fix etc. ● I always engage with anyone nearby informing them the reason for my flight.
