This is a Drone Video Comparison test between my brand new Autel Evo 2 Pro and the DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Although the Evo 2 Pro can shoot 4K 60fps as well as 6K 30fps, this test is using 4K DLOG 10 bit 30fps to keep it fair for the DJI Mavic 2 Pro as this is the maximum the DJI can record in. It was a very windy, overcast day at Westgate Park in Melbourne. I manually set the camera on both drones to 4K 30fps DLOG, ISO 100, 30fps, shutter 1/60 and I adjusted the EV on both to fine tune exposure (used ND8 filter on both). I used manual focus on the Mavic 2 Pro since autofocus doesn't work properly however on the Evo 2 Pro I left autofocus on. I used Davinci Resolve to make this video and I used the DJI and Autel supplied DLOG LUTs and the same minor colour and contrast changes on both. The DJI DLOG footage required the usual distortion correction setting in Davinci Resolve and it was nice that I didn't need to fix distortion in the Autel footage. I set the Project settings to 3840 x 2160 30fps as the Autel records in 30fps. The DJI records in 29.97fps so there may be a slight issue with the DJI smoothness due to the differences in frame rate. The final edit was rendered in 4K H.264 for use in YouTube. Overall I think the Autel had the clearest footage and the colours popped even though it was a dull, overcast day. However I think I should have picked a better white balance on the Evo. I will fix it on my next video. I did notice that the Mavic 2 Pro horizon level was affected by the strong wind whereas the Autel Evo 2 Pro didn't appear to have the same issue or not as much. Probably because the Autel is a bigger, heavier drone. My initial reaction is that the Autel Evo 2 Pro is superior to Mavic 2 Pro due to being a bigger drone, longer flight time, better crash avoidance features and a better camera. I also prefer the Autel controller/phone setup and its colour display is a nice touch. However the Mavic 2 Pro seems to be more stable during flight as the Evo sometimes moves a little bit by itself. Autel forums say Autel are improving the software for compass calibration. UPDATE 1: one day later and I have now updated the Evo software in the drone, controller and Android app to the latest Beta version from the Evo website and followed the new compass calibration method and the Evo stability is now great. I flew it tonight in strong winds and it was 100% stable and consistent with no unexpected movements. UPDATE 2: On the following day I flew in strong cross winds and I noticed that it would drift ever so slightly with the wind. It doesn't impact flying but it does impact the camera. Hopefully they will fix it in a future update as it is almost there. I will cautiously fly the Autel until I know everything about it. I just hope that it can be as reliable and predictable as the DJI Mavic 2 Pro. Technology always gets better and I am looking forward to DJI releasing a new drone that is even better than the Mavic 2 Pro and Evo 2 Pro. I check for other aircraft and stay low (tree top height) or land if there are low aircraft nearby, otherwise no higher than 120m and no closer than 5.5km to a controlled airport, no closer than 30m to people, no flights over people or crowds, keep the drone in line of site and controlled safely, no flights at night.
